PETRA SEDIMENTUM MATE POR BELLO DIAS

What if nature could tell us stories across thousands and thousands of years? This was the proposal that guided Studio Bello Dias in the creation of Petra Sedimentum Mate: a sintered stone inspired by archaeology, in tribute to fossils – small treasures of nature that reveal remnants of the past. This collection is based on limestone, a sedimentary formation that already contains fossil particles. To this base are added small seashell-like elements – so delicate that they are not noticeable at first glance on the larger slabs. Upon a second, closer look, the presence reveals itself – as if nature is telling its story, or inviting us to reflect on it. What life inhabited these forms? What hands touched them? What landscapes shaped what we see preserved in matter today? Like the fossils that have endured for millennia, Petra portrays the idea of permanence. It is a surface made to last and accompany the passage of time. The greige tone chosen for this collection – a warm gray with beige nuances – reinforces the naturalness of the limestone and foretells the movements that solidify as time goes on. The result is a modern, poetic, and silently expressive piece: a stone that not only mimics nature but honors it, preserving on its surface the memory of a sea that we no longer see, but that continues to pulse delicately into matter.
